Photo Friday: White-lined Sphinx Caterpillar

This big caterpillar was found in our yard earlier this week. You see those white dots on one end? Those are tiny wasp larvae parasites. Gross, huh?

Come back next week to link up your photos.

Beneath the Cross of Jesus

Beneath the Cross of Jesus
words by Elizabeth Clephane

Beneath the cross of Jesus I fain would take my stand,
The shadow of a mighty rock within a weary land;
A home within the wilderness, a rest upon the way,
From the burning of the noontide heat, and the burden of the day.

 O safe and happy shelter, O refuge tried and sweet,
O trysting place where Heaven’s love and Heaven’s justice meet!
As to the holy patriarch that wondrous dream was given,
So seems my Savior’s cross to me, a ladder up to heaven.

There lies beneath its shadow but on the further side
The darkness of an awful grave that gapes both deep and wide
And there between us stands the cross two arms outstretched to save
A watchman set to guard the way from that eternal grave.

Upon that cross of Jesus mine eye at times can see
The very dying form of One Who suffered there for me;
And from my stricken heart with tears two wonders I confess;
The wonders of redeeming love and my unworthiness.

I take, O cross, thy shadow for my abiding place;
I ask no other sunshine than the sunshine of His face;
Content to let the world go by to know no gain or loss,
My sinful self my only shame, my glory all the cross.

Photo Friday: The...Thing

Last week I was outside taking a picture of a dessert that I had made. I was just finishing up when I happened to look over and see this ugly dead caterpillar. I have no idea what exactly he is. I tried looking him up in the insect guide but I couldn't find anything that looked right. Any ideas?

Zinnias

It's time for Vee's note card party again!

A Haven for Vee

These are some of the pictures I took during Bekah's photo shoot. The zinnias were in full bloom so they showed up in several of the pictures.

One Day

When getting together the hymn for last week, I was looking at the hymn writer bio to see if there were any other of his songs that I knew. One of the songs on NetHymnal was One Day. The tune didn't sound familiar  but the words were. Casting Crowns has a modern version of this song titled Glorious Day.

One Day
words by J. Wilbur Chapman

One day when Heaven was filled with His praises,
One day when sin was as black as could be,
Jesus came forth to be born of a virgin,
Dwelt among men, my Example is He!

Refrain:
Living, He loved me; dying, He saved me;
Buried, He carried my sins far away;
Rising, He justified freely forever;
One day He’s coming—O glorious day!

One day they led Him up Calvary’s mountain,
One day they nailed Him to die on the tree;
Suffering anguish, despised and rejected:
Bearing our sins, my Redeemer is He!

One day they left Him alone in the garden,
One day He rested, from suffering free;
Angels came down o’er His tomb to keep vigil;
Hope of the hopeless, my Savior is He!

One day the grave could conceal Him no longer,
One day the stone rolled away from the door;
Then He arose, over death He had conquered;
Now is ascended, my Lord evermore!

One day the trumpet will sound for His coming,
One day the skies with His glories will shine;
Wonderful day, my belovèd ones bringing;
Glorious Savior, this Jesus is mine!

Photo Friday: Apples to Apples

On Sunday afternoons we like to play games. We usually play at least Apples to Apples every week.

Owen, who loves games, is so happy that he can play by himself now!

Owen had a birthday this week. He is now a big SEVEN-year-old!

Jesus! What a Friend of Sinners

Jesus! What a Friend of Sinners
words by J. Wilbur Chapman

Jesus! what a Friend for sinners!
Jesus! Lover of my soul;
Friends may fail me, foes assail me,
He, my Savior, makes me whole.

Refrain:
Hallelujah! what a Savior!
Hallelujah! what a Friend!
Saving, helping, keeping, loving,
He is with me to the end.

Jesus! what a Strength in weakness!
Let me hide myself in Him.
Tempted, tried, and sometimes failing,
He, my Strength, my victory wins.

Jesus! what a Help in sorrow!
While the billows over me roll,
Even when my heart is breaking,
He, my Comfort, helps my soul.

Jesus! what a Guide and Keeper!
While the tempest still is high,
Storms about me, night overtakes me,
He, my Pilot, hears my cry.

Jesus! I do now receive Him,
More than all in Him I find.
He hath granted me forgiveness,
I am His, and He is mine.

Photo Friday: Bekah's Summer Photo Shoot

Bekah has been wanting to have a photo shoot for a while now. Yesterday was the day since it was sunny, I was off of work, and it wasn't so unbearably humid. It just so happened that Bekah got her first pair of glasses on Wednesday so her photo shoot also documented her new look.

Thr3e

Sisters Book Challenge
Book 7
Thr3e by Ted Dekker

source
This year, I have found myself reading more mysteries. First there was Death Comes to Pemberley, next five Agatha Christie books, then A Heartbeat Away. To add to the mystery books on my reading log, the next book on the Sisters Book Challenge I chose was Thr3e. I've never read any books by Ted Dekker so I was looking forward to reading this book.

If I used one word to describe this book I would chose "creepy." It's one of those books that you don't want to read when you're alone since the story was about a stalker. Like all good suspense books, it was hard to put it down once I got into the story. I liked this book although the ending kind of shocked me. I wasn't expecting it to turn out that way. In the end, I would be interested in trying more Ted Dekker books.

Have you read any of his books?
Do you have a suggestion on which one I should read next?

Crown Him with Many Crowns

Crown Him With Many Crowns
Matthew Bridges (stanzas 1, 2, 4), Godfrey Thring (stanza 3)

Crown Him with many crowns, the Lamb upon His throne.
Hark! How the heavenly anthem drowns all music but its own.
Awake, my soul, and sing of Him who died for thee,
And hail Him as thy matchless King through all eternity.

Crown Him the Lord of love, behold His hands and side,
Those wounds, yet visible above, in beauty glorified.
No angel in the sky can fully bear that sight,
But downward bends his burning eye at mysteries so bright.

Crown Him the Lord of life, who triumphed over the grave,
And rose victorious in the strife for those He came to save.
His glories now we sing, who died, and rose on high,
Who died eternal life to bring, and lives that death may die.

Crown Him the Lord of Heav’n, One with the Father known;
One with the Spirit through Him giv’n from yonder glorious throne.
To Thee be endless praise, for Thou for us hast died;
Be Thou, O Lord, through endless days adored and magnified.

~~~
His eyes are like blazing fire, and on His head are many crowns.
He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and His name is the Word of God.
Revelation 19: 12, 13
Photo Friday: Sharp-shinned Hawk
On the way home from work the other afternoon, I spotted this hawk sitting on a telephone wire. I came back with my camera, hoping he would still be there...and HE WAS! I got several pictures of him before I got too close and he took off shrieking.
