The Wall's New Look

Back in August we took a trip to the nearest HomeGoods store. I LOVE that store! The dishes, the linens, the candles, the napkins... it's all so fun to look through. As we were roaming the aisles, my eye caught sight of a beautiful framed chalkboard. The price was reasonable and so I bought it. I wasn't sure if the color was going to go in my room but I thought I could either paint it or save it for my future house.

Come to find out, the color went well in my room so the next step was figuring out where to hang it. I found a nice place but it would mean taking down my calendar. I thought I could live with that but after a few days I realized how much I look at my calendar. Mom suggested hanging it as part of a grouping on the wall where I had my message board.

I decided to try it out. We flipped the message board around, moved it over several inches and hung the chalk board next to it. I liked it! There was a little extra space above the chalk board that needed to me filled though.

I love the look of keys so I went to Hobby Lobby and found a small wooden plaque. I painted and distressed it in an antique white and screwed in small hooks on which to hang five vintage keys. It went perfectly in the space I had and gave just the right touch.

To finish the look, I got several of my photographs printed in black and white to put on my message board and wrote the line "here's my heart Lord, take and seal it" (from the hymn Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing) on the chalk board.

Right below it on my desk, I put the old Instamatic camera I have, my green birds salt and pepper shakers, and a pink candle to tie in all the colors above.

I am loving the new look!

Very nice, Kati. I have a chalkboard, too, and I am practicing my printing on it. I bought colored chalk and white chalk. I enjoy it. Happy Fall to you. xo

Very nice!

A trick I learned way, way back is varying the height of things like on your table. They are all small scaled, so try adding something taller or bigger to the mix and see how you like it.

Can't wait to see you! Your jars are waiting!

I love your new chalkboard art. You have inspired me to write something on my chalkboard again!
