I Am Debtor

I Am Debtor
words by Robert McCheyne

When this passing world is done,
When has sunk yon glaring sun,
When we stand with Christ in glory,
Looking o’er life’s finished story,
Then, Lord, shall I fully know—
Not till then—how much I owe.

When I hear the wicked call,
On the rocks and hills to fall,
When I see them start and shrink
On the fiery deluge brink,Then,
Lord, shall I fully know—
Not till then—how much I owe.

Chosen not for good in me,
Wakened up from wrath to flee,
Hidden in the Savior’s side,
By the Spirit sanctified,
Teach me, Lord, on earth to show,
By my love, how much I owe.

Oft I walk beneath the cloud,
Dark, as midnight’s gloomy shroud;
But, when fear is at the height,
Jesus comes, and all is light;
Blessed Jesus! bid me show
Doubting saints how much I owe.

When in flowery paths I tread,
Oft by sin I’m captive led;
Oft I fall—but still arise—
The Spirit comes—the tempter flies;
Blessed Spirit! bid me show
Weary sinners all I owe.

Oft the nights of sorrow reign—
Weeping, sickness, sighing, pain;
But a night Thine anger burns—
Morning comes and joy returns;
God of comforts! bid me show
To Thy poor, how much I owe.

When I stand before the throne,
Dressed in beauty not my own,
When I see Thee as Thou art,
Love Thee with unsinning heart,
Then Lord, shall I fully know—
Not till then—how much I owe.

When the praise of Heav’n I hear,
Loud as thunders to the ear,
Loud as many waters’ noise,
Sweet as harp’s melodious voice,
Then, Lord, shall I fully know—
Not till then—how much I owe.

Even on earth, as through a glass
Darkly, let Thy glory pass,
Make forgiveness feel so sweet,
Make Thy Spirit’s help so meet,
Even on earth, Lord, make me know
Something of how much I owe.

Therefore, brethren, we are debtors.  ~Romans 8:12

Ben's Special Outing

It was Ben's turn today. He was so glad that it was finally his time! When I asked him on Sunday if he would like to go to Dairy Queen or Sonic he replied that he was really hoping to go to McDonald's. So McDonald's it was for a hot fudge sundae and a little play time in the play area.

He looks pretty happy with his choice, doesn't he?

Maddie's Special Outing

This week Maddie's number was drawn. I gave her the choice of either Sonic or Dairy Queen. When she saw that it was a rainy day, she chose Dairy Queen where we could enjoy some ice cream without getting wet. While we were eating s'mores blizzards we talked about cats, kittens, siblings, the beach, and loose teeth. :)

Because of Winn-Dixie

Sisters Book Challenge
Book 6
Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate Dicamillo

I love when animal stories have happy endings. This is one of those books. It was an easy read and didn't take me long to finish it once I started.

This is a story about a little girl named India Opal who lives with her father who is a minister. Her mother left when she was a baby so it is just her and her father. This is also a story about a dog who needs Opal (and she needs him). She names her new dog Winn-Dixie (since she found him in the supermarket of the same name) and they become inseparable. Because of Winn-Dixie, Opal makes many new friends.

There is a movie based on the book and we watched it last Friday night for movie night. It was good but no where near as good as the book. They added a character, changed a personality, and left out several things. But it was a clean movie so great for a family movie night.

Have you read this book?

Happy Pails

Its always fun to take little gifts when we visit our faraway family. This time, Bekah and I decided to fill small pails found in the Target dollar section with goodies to take to Eve, Nora, and Peter. We spent weeks filling these dear little things with trinkets.

Each pail had a tiny stuffed bear, a notepad, a mini notebook, a pencil, a crazy straw, a piece of chalk, and a bag of candy. The two girls also got a yo-yo hair tie.

It was so much fun watching them discover what was in their pails.

All three children slept with their bears every night we were there. It was a common sight to see someone walking around with their pails during their play. The chalkboard was gotten out and the brick sidewalk was very colorful with pictures. And one morning, we discovered a whole pile of Reese's cup wrappers on the floor where a certain boy decided he needed a before-breakfast snack. :)

These gifts were inexpensive and so much fun!

Alaine's Special Outing

To make the special outings more fun, I decided to draw numbers to make it random. I announced on Sunday who was going out with me next.

This week Alaine's number was picked. Today was the chosen day. She was so excited! Unlike Gavin who talked up a storm, Alaine only said a few things but she smiled the whole time.

We went to Sonic for an ice cream treat. When I asked her what she wanted she pointed to a pink milkshake, strawberry banana. When she got back, she told everyone about her "banana shake."

May the Mind of Christ, My Savior

May the Mind of Christ, My Savior
words by Kate Wilkinson

May the mind of Christ, my Savior,
Live in me from day to day,
By His love and power controlling
All I do and say.

May the Word of God dwell richly
In my heart from hour to hour,
So that all may see I triumph
Only through His power.

May the peace of God my Father
Rule my life in everything,
That I may be calm to comfort
Sick and sorrowing.

May the love of Jesus fill me
As the waters fill the sea;
Him exalting, self abasing,
This is victory.

May I run the race before me,
Strong and brave to face the foe,
Looking only unto Jesus
As I onward go.

May His beauty rest upon me,
As I seek the lost to win,
And may they forget the channel,
Seeing only Him.

Flower Gifts

A rose can say "I love you",
Orchids can enthrall,
But a weed bouquet in a chubby fist,
Yes, that says it all.

Gavin's Special Outing

Today was the first of five outings in which I take one nephew or niece out for a special treat. Gavin was the first and we went to Dairy Queen for blizzards. While eating a s'mores blizzard, he talked all about The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, and Legos. We had a great afternoon and I can't wait until the next "date" with a special someone.

Doesn't he look happy?!

Cute as a Button Baby Shower

When I knew that my friend Britni was expecting a baby girl, I knew I wanted to have a shower for her with a "cute as a button" theme. I have a whole board on Pinterest with button inspiration so I knew there would be no shortage of ideas.

As soon as I picked a date with Britni and her mother, I got right to work making my own invitations using PicMonkey. They have some button overlays available which made an adorable invite that went with my theme.

Mom made a pink and green fabric banner for a birthday party a few years ago. I decided to sew on some buttons to go with the theme. It took me only 20 minutes to add the buttons and when we're done with it, I can snip the buttons off and it's back to being the plain banner.

The tables were decorated with miniature roses in small white vessels. I liked how there were a grouping of small arrangements rather than one big arrangement. It made the table look fuller and also added different heights.

With just a little bit of wire and some patience, the plain votive candles I got at Walmart turned into a cute touch for the tables and they doubled as party favors for the guests.

Other button touches included glass charms and napkin rings. Both of these were super easy to make and used supplies I already had in abundance.

Since we had planned a brunch, tea and coffee would be served so I used our collection of tea cups. Each place setting had a different tea cup which added to the charm.

Because we had guests coming in the morning and we had food to prepare that couldn't be done ahead, we set the table and did the decorating the night before. That helped so much because we had a lot more time to tweak the table and it freed us up in the morning.

Our menu was pretty simple but oh so good!

~ Quiche Lorraine

~ Strawberry Spinach Salad
          (dressing recipe found here)

~ Fresh Fruit Tray

Each dish had a button label explaining what each food was and looking cute as could be.

The mini vanilla cupcakes were put into pink cupcake wrappers and topped with homemade pink and green fondant buttons.

These were served on our Moss Rose plates that just happened to be the colors I had chosen.

It was so much fun planning and decorating for this "Cute as a Button" baby shower.
