I Surrender All

I Surrender All
words by Judson Van DeVenter

All to Jesus, I surrender;
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.

All to Jesus I surrender;
Humbly at His feet I bow,
Worldly pleasures all forsaken;
Take me, Jesus, take me now.

All to Jesus, I surrender;
Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel the Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine.

All to Jesus, I surrender;
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power;
Let Thy blessing fall on me.

All to Jesus I surrender;
Now I feel the sacred flame.
O the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory, to His Name!

Refrain:
I surrender all, I surrender all,
All to Thee, my blessèd Savior,
I surrender all.

Any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be My disciple. ~Luke 14:33

This is a lovely hymn...but what struck me today is the verse from Scripture that you included. Sobering, challenging words...and so true.

I agree with your Mom, Kati. That scripture is powerful and convicting. I'm also particularly struck by the thought that my surrender should be FREELY given, for love of Him. It should not be forced out of me, but should be something that I gladly lay down at His feet. Thank you for challenging my heart this morning with these words. I can't help but wonder what was happening in the soul of the author of the hymn, to bring forth these lyrics.
